To touch hearts and transform lives through Christ.

Weddings

Wedding preparation is an exciting time and we look forward to helping you make this time special.

Wedding Information Booklet
The Wedding Information Booklet provides a guide to help with planning your wedding at Ross Memorial, Trinity or Wesley Uniting Churches (Uniting Church in the City churches).

Eligibility
You are not required to be members of our churches (nor be baptised) for you to be married at one of the Uniting Church in the City churches.  Divorced persons are welcome, as long as they can provide their divorce papers.

Same Sex Marriages
The legislation to allow same-sex marriage, the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017, passed  the Australian Parliament on 7 December 2017 and received royal assent from the Governor-General the following day. The law came into effect on 9 December 2017.

Uniting Church Ministers and Pastors are given permission to marry people under the Rites of the Uniting Church in Australia. Marriage must be conducted according to the Church's rites.

These rites cannot be changed until the Uniting Church National Assembly Meeting in July 2018 at the earliest.  Therefore if, and until these rites are changed, same sex marriages cannot be conducted in our churches. Once the National Assembly has concluded, the Uniting Church will provide further advice and guidance on its position in relation to same sex marriage.

Ministers
We have three Ministers within the Uniting Church in the City who will conduct your service. Ministers of any Christian denomination may conduct weddings at Uniting Church in the City churches. Civil Celebrants, however, may not be used.

Cost
The fee for holding a wedding at any of the Uniting Church in the City churches is $1,875.

Initial Enquiries
The first person to contact regarding your initial enquiry is our Ceremonies Co-ordinator,
Gail Christie, on 08 6103 4222 or gailc@ucic.org.au.

A tentative booking can then be made, however this booking will only be confirmed after payment of a non-refundable booking fee of $250.

Developing the Marriage Service
For those couples being married by one of the Uniting Church in the City Ministers, the format of the service will be that of the Uniting Church. Opportunity is provided for couples to select some elements in the service. Please see the Complete Marriage Service Booklet for information.

This allows for some variety and choice, particularly with respect to the vows. When you meet with the minister you will be taken through the service and different options will be explained.

Please know that at any time we are here to offer support and encouragement.
